Drafts

As you are all well aware the ability to complete projects is something I struggle with. While from the outset it may look like I have been a complete slacker this month, fear not, I have started many drafts. Blogger has a save element which I love. A post can be started, saved, and left until never to finish. Whenever I have a few hours I will complete these drafts, with accompanying pictures; until such a time occurs, bear with me:)

Role Reversal

Suddenly Patrick broke out in sobs. The babies had been happily playing together and I attributed it to a pinched finger. Later in the evening I caught Cassidy in the act. Mouth wide open she wildly frothed in anticipation as she plotted her attack. Her eyes widened as she stalked her prey; Patrick once again shrieked.

My defenseless child has come up with quite the defense............biting. Multiple times tonight she has begun her shark like attack. Mouth wide open she inches closer and closer to Patrick after he has taken a toy an then suddenly, after careful review, strikes. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh shrieks Patrick shocked that his sister is fighting back in the least.

This could be bad...............................

She Walks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tonight Cassidy took her first steps! Unlike her brother, Cassidy took off and walked three steps as though she had been walking her whole life. She took steps multiple times tonight. Now it's official. We have two walkers!!!!

Today it "clicked"

Patrick has been taking two or three steps here and there for the last month or so. Yesterday I reported his sporadic walking abilities to Dr. Penman and it appears this spurned his walking revolution. Today he has attempted to walk to his destination multiple times (instead of just crawling). He has walked 10 steps three times today!!!!! This is his latest record however he is making an attempt to walk almost everywhere. I'm convinced this is the true beginning of walking.
Cassidy still hasn't taken a single step although she does stand on her own. Perhaps one day she'll decide walking looks like fun......until then she's an incredibly fast crawler.

One Year Stats

The twins had their one year check up today. Patrick weighed in at 22lbs 3oz while Cassidy came in at 17lbs 10oz. She is barely holding onto the growth curve but the good news is that she's still on it! Our chunky monkey is only in the 42nd percentile which surprised us all; he's come a long way from his 5lbs 9oz birth weight.

Patrick's Growth Chart

Cassidy's Growth Chart
Height wise the twins are both holding true to their percentiles. Cassidy is in the 6th percentile for height coming in at 27 inches while Patrick is 30 inches skyrocketing to the 59th percentile!
With the check up came the dreaded shots. The babies cried and Payton and I felt their pain. At least they are done for three months!!!

I love my husband!!!!

Who can honestly say their husband is romantic? I know my husband loves me, he is an incredible father, and a wonderful partner in life but, romantic isn't an adjective I would use to describe him. Tonight Steve came home with flowers, a bottle of wine, and a card so perfect it brought me to tears. Thank you for being so spectacular darling.

Statistics show that if parents can stay together through the first year following the birth of twins they can make it through anything. So as Payton aptly put it tonight, we'll be married forever. He also said I should quit crying and that he'd make sure I received many more flowers in the future. I'm convinced romantic will be a word that accurately describes Payton in the future.

Birthday Fun

We made it home at 11:15AM, the babies party started at noon. It was a stressful 45 minutes but as soon as everyone arrived we all had fun! My mother used her camera to take pictures. Here is the lovely cake Courtney made and a few pictures of the babies playing with Daddy following the festivities.

Silver Salmon Derby

Thursday night arrived in Seward and were pleasantly surprised by blue skies. After putting the babies to bed Payton and I went to the store to pick up a few bundles of wood. Apparently, the Salmon derby is a big deal in Seward. It is such a big deal that wood which is usually outrageously priced at $4.99 a bundle (plus the lovely Seward tax), is marked up to $6.99 (plus tax!). Can you believe anyone in their right mind would pay $7.48 for five small pieces of WOOD!!!!! As a display of extreme vexation we left Safeway empty handed. Perhaps someone took note of my not so silent protests and next week bundles will be reduced to their original outrageous prices.

Usually when we go camping there is someone who takes pity on me and doesn't go fishing. Unfortunately, for me, the Salmon derby took precedence and I found myself alone for twelve hours with the twins. Our new favorite things are the Seward playground, the book store, and the quilt shop. We even had our own fire, read lots of books, and had a cozy evening.

The boys came home very tired but they had fish! Hopefully next weekend they will win the jackpot:)

Our Tramatic Day

We woke up early looking forward to our Monday with Mima & Papa. Shortly after our arrival the babies moods began to spiral downhill. I chocked it up to a busy weekend and continued on my merry way with my weekly cooking lesson. Then the trauma began..........

Cassidy was kneeling in a box on the kitchen floor and beamed up, quite proud of her handiwork. Simultaneously beaming and balancing proved to be too great a challenge and in seemingly slow motion she lurched forward and face planted on the linoleum floor. I quickly picked her up to assess the damage and became frantic myself when I saw a mouth full of blood. Her top "half" teeth had planted themselves into her top lip upon landing and her lip was puffing larger and larger by the minute. After calming her down, it was nap time. I discovered that my husband had been too efficient in unloading the car, and the pack'n plays were no longer in the Denali.

Patrick took a nap in Mima and Papa's room while Cassidy was put down in Aunt Jenna's bed. We all took turns checking on the twins periodically and within two minutes of Payton checking on Cassidy Papa came into the kitchen with a screaming Cassidy. She once more had a mouth and face full of blood. The pillows I had placed around her to keep her on the bed had become smothering devices and she had managed to get her head caught under a pillow and between the wall and the bed. After cleaning her up and calming her down yet again, we decided it was time to go home.

I was shaking all the way home. My poor precious baby girl had almost died! Thank goodness Papa had saved her!!!!! When Steve arrived home, he asked Payton to take out the trash. "I can't," he said, pausing for effect, "We've had a very traumatic day!"

Before bed, the babies were playing in the living room, supervised by two parents. Patrick, while playing with the phone, decided 911 looked like a good number to dial. Unbeknown to us he had dialed 911 and we were shocked to receive a call from them. Steve convinced the operator that the baby had called and assured her we did not need their assistance.

Having had quite enough excitement for one day I hurried the twins upstairs for baths and bed. While running the bath water, Patrick, who ALWAYS has shoes on his hands decided that MY shoe belonged in the bath. He tossed it in the swirling water and smiled up at me, very proud of himself. I glared back, snatched my poor battered shoe out of the water, quickly bathed the babies and tucked them safely in bed.

I hope tomorrow is calm and uneventful...........then again I have twins and a 10 year old. Who am I kidding?????
