Talk, talk, talk

Apparently I talk on the phone a lot. This Christmas one of the gifts Steve received was a new DVD player. Cassidy has fallen in love with the slim, sleek, shiny remote. Yesterday she began to hold her "telephone" up to her ear and walk around the house jibber-jabbering. Around the house she paced talking up a storm and even putting her hand on her hip! She wants to be just like mommy............

Choir Concert

Payton had his holiday choir concert today. This was the twins first "concert." Patrick sat happily on Steve's knee watching the kids sing. Cassidy on the other hand was excited to see her brother after a long day away at school. She did not understand the concept of waiting until the class was done singing to hug Pate. When the songs were over she attached herself to her brother and kept her arms locked tight around his neck. The class sounded great and Payton did a wonderful job singing.

The new "Tunnel"

Steve and Payton claim this is not a tunnel. Whatever the new toy grandma bought is, one thing is for sure, the twins love it!!! This nifty Craigslist find was delivered tonight and has already provided hours of enjoyment. Christmas came a little early this year:)

Moose on the Loose

We had an unexpected visitor this morning. Patrick kept pointing and dancing on the coffee table, while Cassidy gazed intently at the large creature looming out her window. I was excited the twins had the opportunity to see a moose at such close proximity, Steve on the other hand was worried about the hedges and damage our live entertainment was imposing.

Winter at the Zoo

We took advantage of the warm weather (a positively balmy 30!) and ventured to the zoo this morning. The tigers were the huge attraction of the day and were as intrigued with the toddlers as they were with them. Hopefully this warm weather will stay for a few days!

Croup!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday Patrick's nose began to run a bit. No big deal, I figured he was getting a cold as he was his normal playful self all day. Fast forward to Friday night; he had spiked a 102 degree fever, was coughing so hard he could barely breathe (it sounded more like a bark), and refused to drink anything. He was awake (and so were we) most of the night struggling to breathe in between fits of coughing.

He still had a fever in the morning and I decided it was time to call the doctor. Steve even agreed he needed to be seen! (He usually thinks I'm a hypochondriac when it comes to the babies, so if he said it, Patrick was extremely ill!) Two hours later we were in the by now familiar waiting room at the doctor's. Patrick was so pitifully sick, his eyes were glazed over, he lay still on my chest, feverishly hot, and every breathe was a wheeze. When the doctor finally saw us she proclaimed his airways inflamed and even had to give him a steroid shot:( She said if that didn't seem to help we were to go straight to the emergency room!

Well, today is Tuesday and Patrick still isn't eating. He is back in his own crib, although he still is plagued by bouts of coughing throughout the night. Hopefully he'll bounce back in time for Thanksgiving!

Meanwhile Cassidy is happy as a clam with a slight runny nose.........no Croup for her! The doctor was convinced I'd be in the office the next day with Cassidy..............where did all her wonderful antibodies come from??? You'd think they'd be the same in twins!

Clean up, Clean up!

My children are messy. On a daily basis the house gets destroyed. Payton voiced my feelings one night, "Why are you cleaning? It will all be messy again tomorrow." Grrrr. Yes, yes, trashed is more like it. I have a two (sometimes four) man wrecking crew on my hands.

As I was neatly putting each toy in its place after the babies had gone to bed Steve suggested that I box half the toys up so I didn't have so much to put away at night. I lovingly shot back if I had more people helping me it would only take half the time. While I don't think my husband is going to help pick up toys any time soon, I suddenly contemplated the idea of the children helping out. Patrick and Cassidy know how to put their dirty clothes in the laundry basket each morning, why not put away toys? They are fifteen months old now and with age comes responsibility. Wish me luck, but I'm determined to teach my children how to be neat!

15 Month Stats

The twins had the honor of seeing their doctor this week. Unfortunately for them, it was to get shots. Cassidy surprised everyone and grew quite a bit! She has been eating everything in sight lately and is beginning to pack on the pounds. She graduated to the 10th percentile in weight with an astounding 19lbs 12 oz. Dr. Penman was impressed!
Patrick didn't gain quite as much weight (23lbs 14oz), but he did stay in the exact same percentile (42nd) which is equally impressive. Their next appointment will be one to celebrate, no shots!!!

Bye Bye Binky!

Today the babies turned 15 months old. To celebrate this milestone I took away their pacifiers. They weren't too happy but I'm sure they won't be phased in a few days.

Pumpkin Carving and Costume Sewing

I decided to carve pumpkins solo. Halloween just isn't the same without a pumpkin! The twins took turns sticking their hands into the slimy inside of the pumpkin and then jumped back with a horrified look on their faces. In turn they hurried back to get one more handful of goop and were quite intrigued with the finished product!

I am NOT a seamstress

Making children's costumes seems like such a motherly thing to do. Last year I was too overwhelmed with keeping up with feedings and diaper changes to put any thought into what the babies would wear for Halloween. This year however, I was determined to make their costumes. Perhaps the first sign this was a quickly floundering fantasy was the fact that the only patterns that I could find were for cowboy/cowgirl outfits. I had envisioned Raggedy Ann and Andy but, apparently patterns are not as abundant as costumes. I proudly purchased the materials and pattern feeling extremely thrifty and very maternal. At home my smile faded as I looked at the 74 (yes 74!!!!!!!!!!!!!) steps to make a silly looking cowboy outfit!

Currently the pieces of these costumes are scattered all over the bedroom, I have spent HOURS of precious no baby time devoted to this project, and I have absolutely no desire to finish it. I think my short lived foray into sewing is officially over! Tomorrow I may break down and try to purchase already assembled costumes!!!

I'm cute too!

Shoes, coats, and hats!

Lately Patrick has expanded his fascination with shoes to include coats and hats. Anytime anyone who is at our house puts their coat on, he immediately grabs his and tries to have the closest person put it on. I have taken to hiding my shoes because otherwise I can't find them. Patrick has figured out how to put them on, walk in them, and then deposit them wherever his attention span wanders. As if it wasn't already hard enough to get out of the house!!!! Any hat he can get his hands on, he wants to wear. Watch out if you enter my house and happen to be wearing a hat...........it will soon be taken!

Neat Vs. Messy

Patrick and Cassidy have two very different styles of food consumption. Patrick loves to mash, squish, throw, put food in and take food out of his mouth, and of course eventually eat it. Cassidy prefers to meticulously clean her tray until it is clean. It's no surprise who it's harder to clean up after!
